HOW TO MAKE PAPER PLATE CRAFTS: BUNTING

One thing that will set your party apart from others is some fun bunting. And the best thing is, it’s an easy paper plate craft. All you need is glue, string or ribbon, and a stack of paper plates. Here’s how to make bunting:

  1. Get ready. Clear your workspace and collect your materials.
  2. Choose the shape/s for your bunting. For example: bottles or dummies (baby shower), pumpkins (Halloween), or trees (Christmas).
  3. Measure the space where you want to hang your bunting. Use a measuring tape or a piece of string to work out the length of the bunting.
  4. Cut a long piece of ribbon or string to size and mark out places to hang decorations. Make sure it fits the area where you plan to hang it. Mark out where you want to put your shapes.
  5. Make your shapes. You could draw your shapes freehand or print them out.
  6. Cut the paper plates into shapes. If you’ve drawn your shape, then you can use this initial drawing as a stencil to transfer the same shape onto every paper plate before cutting them. If you choose to print your shapes, simply stick these onto every paper plate and cut them out.
  7. Glue your shapes on. We recommend using Pritt All Purpose Glue. This child-safe adhesive has a two way applicator for dots, lines and large-surface application. Apply the glue to the back of the shape and attach it to the ribbon.
  8. Add final decorations. Add extra decorations such as gems. After application, wait for the glue to dry.

Now it’s time to hang up your bunting! Using a step ladder and a helper, you can fix the ribbon to your curtain rail or mantelpiece. You can also use Pritt Multi Tack for nail-free hanging.

HOW TO MAKE PAPER PLATE CRAFTS: MASKS

For kids, paper plate crafts can be an adventure in role-play – let their imagination run wild by making masks! Here’s how:

  1. Get ready. Clear your workspace and collect your materials (paper plates, glue, paint and any other decorative elements like glitter, gems or feathers).
  2. Create the shape for your mask. You could draw your mask shape freehand, print out a mask shape, or find a famous face to use.
  3. If you’re using printed shapes, glue them onto the paper plates. Apply a thin layer of glue to the back of the printed paper and stick it onto the plate. Wait for the glue to dry.
  4. Cut out the masks. Use scissors to cut around the shapes.
  5. Decorate your masks. You can use colourful pens, paint, stick-on gems, pieces of lace or ribbon, feathers, or any other decorative materials you have at home.
  6. Glue on a lolly stick. Apply a dab of glue to a lolly stick and attach the stick to the bottom of your mask. Wait for the glue to dry.

Once you’ve made your bunting and masks with paper plate crafts, you’re ready to party!
